One Wrong Attraction

From the moment you first set eyes on them, you've been drawn - but this is no meet-cute. They are completely unavailable to you: they're sworn to a duty, already spoken for (by someone powerful or evil, no doubt), precious cargo, a caged bird kept away from prying eyes, a possession of a wicked creature. Whatever the case, they are off-limits. The problem is...they are struck by you, too.

Will you fight your feelings, or will you free them so they can be with you? Either way, there's a high probability of it all going up in flames.

Guilt: You can't really free them, can you? This fact tears you up inside.

One of the most popular genres, of course, is romance. Whatever the case may be, one of you is hot, popular, and athletic, and the other is...not so much. Still, there's something here. Will both of you be willing to look outside your clique and bear the ridicule in order to be together?

4. The Tearjerker (Love Story, a ton of Nicholas Spark movies): The two of you are falling in love, and your relationship is perfect. Or it is until one of you finds out you're dying, whether it be of illness or other causes! Or maybe not dying, just leaving forever. Who knows, whatever the reason, the two of you won't be able to be together forever. What will you do? Break up to ease the pain, or continue on until the last moments?

5. I was Enchanted to Meet You/Fairy Tale Love (Enchanted, etc): Though it may be awkward at first, your relationship is straight out of a fairy tale! Sugary sweet with lots of slow realizations and cute scenarios; singing animals are optional. This kind of love (and the right princess, of course) can even make the most stoic of men melt. How does she know you love her?

6. It Was Just Sex (No Strings Attached, Zack & Miri Make a Porno, etc): You both agreed it was supposed to be just sex. Friends with benefits, that's it. Well, about that. One of you wants to be more than just friends. That won't mess things up, will it?

7. The Hookup Gone Wrong (Knocked Up, etc): You got somebody pregnant, they accidentally imprinted on you, you went through a mating-for-life ritual without noticing it, whatever you crazy kids do these days. Now you're stuck with someone, may as well learn to tolerate them. If you're lucky, tolerance can grow into fondness, and then...

8. As You Wish/The Princess and her Stable Boy (Princess Bride, etc): This person may be beneath you, but whatever the case, you've always taken them for granted. Will you see their love before it's too late...like something bad happening?

9. A Little Species Difference (Twilight, Underworld, etc): Love is love...even if you two don't have the luxury of being the same species. But who cares if you're a vamp and she's a human, or you're a demon and he's an angel? Okay, maybe the rest of your kind or society cares, and that may cause a few problems, but it all works out in the end, right?

10. For Richer or Poorer (Titanic, etc): The poor boy sees the rich girl and falls in love at first sight. Maybe this doesn't describe your relationship exactly, but there differences in your social classes. Will the people around you and their obsession with money drive you apart, or can you show them that blue collar and black tie can be as one?

11. This is Very Unprofessional (The Bodyguard, etc): For some reason, you're supposed to protect this person. For the benefit of this missions, it's better to keep emotions out of it- oops, you've fallen in love with your charge! Or perhaps, even worse, you've fallen in love with someone who should be your enemy or you were supposed to eliminate!

12. The Wedding Crasher (Romcoms, romcoms): The person you love is with someone else- maybe even about to take the plunge into marriage. But they should totally be with you, and you're about to show the world! Er, even if that means crashing their special day.

13. The Enemies turned Lovers (Romeo + Juliet, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, etc): Perhaps the oldest story in the book, people from warring factions overcoming hate to give into their love for each other. Need I say more?

14. I Want You to Want Me (10 Things I Hate About You, etc): Ahh, hate growing to love. A staple of teen movies and romantic comedies for many years. That's because it works! There's just something about the chemistry you feel with someone you can't stand changing into a desire to actually be close to this person. After all, they say there's a thin line between love and hate.

15. The Comedic Misunderstanding (The Proposal, every romcom ever, etc): Oh no! You just heard the guy you love call you ugly to his friend! You saw the girl of your dreams with another man! Surely this means you're doomed and hated and you'll be forever alone! Oooor maybe it was just a misunderstanding- NOPE. DOOMED AND HATED AND FOREVER ALONE.

16. This Isn't A Love Story (500 Days of Summer, etc): Not all love ends with happily ever after. Sometimes there are just plain endings- very, very messy ones with lots of hate. So whoo keeps the dog, the apartment, and the IKEA furniture, you mad hipsters exes? Well, deciding that's part of the fun!

17. Find Something Better (Yet another romance cliche): You've broken up with somebody and totally sworn off of relationships for good! Nope, nobody is going to make you love agai- darn it! That free spirit made you love again! Shoot. Well, you don't have to let the- damn it, you let them into your heart, didn't you?

18. It All Worked Out in the End (almost every movie): You've been through lots of disasters and trials, maybe even years worth of separation, so now you've earned your life as a happy couple. Enjoy it!

19. Love at First Sight (many a movie): The obligatory love at first sight, which seems to dominate a lot of movies. You see this person and you know they're the one! Now you just have to win them over.

20. Mistaken Identities (I'm pretty sure a Mary Kate and Ashley movie was like this): You've fallen in love with someone, but while they love you, it's not the real you they love. They think you're someone else because of a misunderstanding, your own designs, or something along those lines. Can you risk telling them the truth and get them to love you for you, or will you live a lie?

21. Good Girl/Bad Boy (Grease, etc): I got chiiiills, they're multiplyin'! One of you is a goody-goody (at least in some capacity), while the other is from the wrong side of the tracks (what tracks?). It's dangerous, but there's something thrilling about danger. Still, are you sure this isn't just summer lovin'? If you really care for this person, maybe you can make it work.

Think of this, then consider your dream living situation. That ideal can be as varied as what "being in charge" means. Some would love to have nothing more than a simple life in a simple home with a warm meal a day, while others would prefer a castle with servants and a crown on their heads. Dream big, after all.

Now, imagine that, having your own way, and the cherry on top: a lover who will be at your beck and call. Not because you demand it, but just because they want to dote on you. That could be nice, couldn't it? They wouldn't be a total pushover, that's no fun, yet they'd know your whims nearly before you do and make sure. VICTORIAN ERA AU MEME

Have you ever just felt like you were born in the wrong time? No? Good, because the past actually sucks. Anyway, it's still interesting to shove your characters into those time frames, so right now it's time for Victorian Era Shenanigans. You know you're intrigued.

SOCIAL STANDING

• UPPER CLASS This is divided into three sections: royal class, which at the time was royal family and spiritual leaders. The middle upper class was for officers, baronets, and lower level lords. The lower upper class included your general rich asshole: wealthy families and large scale businesspeople that built their fortunes.
• MIDDLE CLASS Middle class is in two subsections, higher and lower. The only differentiation here was between salaries and social standings. Higher middle class was more likely to be able to secure any kind of upward mobility. Lower middle class people usually worked under higher middle class. A mid-level merchant as opposed to the person working for them.
• WORKING CLASS Working class were the hard laborers and tradespeople - the skilled class and the unskilled class. Think an undertaker as opposed to a gravedigger.
• UNDER CLASS The lowest of the low in society's eyes, we have the poor: people who were destitute and relied on the charity of others, orphans; and prostitutes, who were under much debate at the time as far as decency went. Also, they were being murdered by Jack the Ripper, so you know, ymmv.

GENRES

• ROMANCE Did you know that Anne Brontë wrote what is considered the first sustained feminist novel in a Western society? Well, now you do. In this, take your main characters, watch them suffer for 300 pages, and eventually they'll realize they're meant for each other. It's all a bit gothic though, isn't it? Dreary, brooding. Sometimes awful things happen. But we've got love (sometimes) and marriage (more often) in the end.
• HORROR Did you know that a vampire is haunting this small town? Werewolves the next town over? Ghosts in every manor? Did you hear about that scientist that went mad? What kind of place is this? Maybe that masqued ball isn't a good idea.
• SCIENCE FICTION You've got a time machine, or you live in a steampunk dystopia set in Victorian times. Perhaps you have a flying machine that's quite advanced or you've traveled to the bottom of the sea or the center of the earth.
• MYSTERY Do you want to be the greatest detective that ever lived? Or perhaps their sidekick. You're not as bumbling as people 200 years from now may try to say you are. Solve thefts, catch Jack the Ripper (good riddance), do whatever! Just put your brains to the test.
• SLICE OF LIFE The simple things. Perhaps you're a lord throwing an expensive party. Perhaps you're showing off your charity by inviting the lower classes. Perhaps you're a merchant on a trade ship to another place. It's your daily life and you're living it. Just be yourself.
• FANTASY Perhaps you want something lighter. You want to travel down the rabbit hole or through the looking glass or be a princess or live in a fairy tale meeting mystical creatures.

As always, these are just suggestions and you can pick your scenario from your genre. Also, not all examples are Victorian era but we do what we want in these parts because the meme cops aren't going to get us (even though we're not them). Make up anything you want, as long as you're having fun! Make sure to post a short backstory in your top level comment so people know how to work with your AU!

Magic is something intensely intimate. Whether it's something inherent in you from when you're born or something drawn out in rituals and summonings, it's full of depth and wonder and potential dangers. Maybe you're showing someone that doesn't have magic what you can do, maybe you're sharing magic with someone you love, winding things together. Maybe you're heading out with some friends to make a salt circle and bring someone back from the dead. The point is you're not in it alone. i. HEAVEN - Nirvana, Shangri La, Elysium, either way your good life has paid off and you are now paid off with eternal happiness.

1) PEACEFULLY. You died at peace, you've done all you can with your time and you came to your natural end. Now it's time to meet with those who left you behind.

2) A HERO. You died a hero. Celebrated by many. It's only fair that you get to rest.

3) TOO SOON. You died too soon, perhaps an innocent victim of some villain, or in an accident. However one thing is for certain, you shall rest peacefully here.

4) A VICTIM. A victim of a horrible circumstance, a painful death. Your end wasn't pleasant, but your afterlife will be.

5) GUILT. You don't feel you deserve to be here. Not with all the suffering that's left behind, with your actions. Others should be here. Not you.

Through mythology and into fantasy, the thought of calling on supernatural beings to do our bidding and extend our power awes and delights. In works where summoned spirits have thoughts and wills and personalities of their own, the bond between summoner and familiar can be like no other...

One character is a being of magic, and the other holds their reins. Loyalty or resentment, trust or caution...there's so many ways to keep a spirit, and so many ways to regard a master.

HOW TO PLAY:

SUMMONER - Why was a familiar summoned?

1. Personal servant. In this world, it's normal to summon supernatural creatures to help you manage the responsibilities of everyday life. Some people have a bit more responsibility on their plate - a familiar could keep an apartment or garden clean, or they could be charged with keeping a wealthy heiress' personal books and screening her appointments - but whatever the arrangement, it's just a part of normal, everyday life.

2. Self-defense. There's trouble brewing, and the world is dangerous for someone in your line of work, whatever that may be. Can you trust a human bodyguard? Even if you can, a familiar is sure to be much more efficient at keeping you alive and unharmed.

3. A good offense. You're not one for sitting around and waiting - there's a mission to be done and a battle to be won, and your familiar is with you for combat purposes first and foremost. Maybe it colors your relationship - is this spirit just a weapon, or could you grow to be fond of each other?

4. Technical applications. When one's work involves a lot of fiddly magic, it's only common sense to have a magical being on hand to keep it running more smoothly. A familiar that can store and channel magic is an essential component in many spells, and sometimes, a spirit is just plain better at certain spells than a human assistant would ever be. Whether you're in a lab, a doctor's office, a factory, or just in a home workshop, it's important to be on the cutting edge of magitechnology.

5. In over your head. This summoning wasn't intentional. You found this book, see, and tried out a spell for kicks, and now you're facing a lease violation for making the building smell like brimstone...

6. A temporary arrangement. This summoning was intentional, but you didn't really have any long-term plans. It was a flight of fancy, or just an opportunity to study the process, and now you need to consider how to send it back, or else what you're going to do with it.

7. Status symbol. This isn't about what the spirit can do - not directly, at least. No, having a familiar is all about the looks for you, because there's someone you need to impress. Maybe a lot of someones. Maybe it wasn't even your idea, and you're just folding to societal expectations. But your reputation is hanging on having this familiar, so you'd better make it work.

8. Like white on rice. Your familiar isn't for anything in particular; the two of you have just been together for too long to ever consider parting. Circumstance or fondness made you lifelong partners. But as much as you're sure that you could never see the other as a tool, the facts of being summoner and familiar are clear, and sooner or later you'll have to turn your personal relationship into a working one - or else the trouble you're facing will eat you alive. Summoners and familiars give, but they also must take...

9. Secondhand spirits. Someone else summoned this familiar, but now it's in your hands. Did their first master die before their time? Was this a rescue operation of sorts? Or are you just a dirty thief? Whatever the situation, familiars are notoriously picky about their masters. Taking in one that's already bonded to another summoner is sure to be an interesting experience.

FAMILIAR - What is the nature of a familiar?

1. From another world. Working with some familiars can be a lot like working with a regular person; they had lives of their own before you called them to this world, though the details of those lives may seem alien to you. It's recommended to treat these spirits these spirits well, like you would treat an employee, or a friend. Just remember, they are still magical beings.

2. Animal companion. Pyewacket, Greedigut, Vinegar Tom...everyone knows the best familiars are the ones you can find just outside your back door. Once bound to its master, a familiar can gain all kinds of fantastic powers, from shapeshifting to prophecy and more. And if you live in a world where the local wildlife is twelve feet long and breathes fire on top of that, well, good for you!

3. Demons. Summoning is a tricky business when you're dealing with sinister forces. Familiars from the netherworld are known to overwhelm unprepared summoners, or betray their trust even years into a working relationship. They who would be a demon's master, pay close attention to the balance of power...

4. Guardians. Some spirits are unquestionably good, or at least unquestionably devoted to their master's well-being; some arrive from the heavens, and some have been sworn to protect a place or bloodline since they first came into being. The difficulty with these is mostly acquiring them in the first place, but sometimes an overprotective guardian spirit can cause more trouble than you bargained for.

5. One being as two. Where better to acquire a loyal spirit than from your own head? Or heart, or something. A familiar created from its summoner's own soul is sure to be more faithful and understanding than any other, capable of telepathy and bound to its master wherever they go. The downside? The well-being of these familiars is linked directly to their summoners' health, and vice-versa. Pieces of soul don't make good meatshields.

6. Homunculus. Blood and mud and who knows what else. A familiar can be created whole-cloth from raw materials, born into the world without any prior memory, to serve its master and creator. Is this a happy relationship, or is rebellion on the horizon?

Bright Spot

The world can sometimes seem like a cold, wicked place, and more than likely, it actually is a cruel place. For days, months, years on end, you never catch a break, everything falling to pieces as soon as you pick it up. Maybe, despite this, you still try your hardest. There has to be a light at the end of the tunnel, doesn't there? The fates don't play favorites, so surely your number is about to come up. Or maybe you've given up and decided to allow yourself to barely float along with only bouts of anger or bitterness to keep you above water. There is no light anywhere, is there?

But there is. There's one bright spot in your life - a person who makes everything worthwhile.

It doesn't really matter how they came to you. What does is that they stay. Whether you admit it or not, you seek comfort from them...and, perhaps, them from you, if you're in the same situation.

So, whether you push them away, treat them right, or go so far as to worship them and put them on a pedestal, you don't want them to go now. You crave being with them, or at least being in their presence. Don't ruin this for yourself. After all, what would you do without your little ray of light? You'll do anything to keep them happy and loved. Anything.

Intimacy is NOT necessarily about full sexual contact. Intimacy is all about two people forming a connection and bond between them. That involves becoming best friends, trusting each other, knowing each other, understanding each other. Intimacy is grown and developed, it can't be rushed.

Nonsexual forms of intimacy can add a great deal of depth and variety to fiction. On one end of the spectrum, they provide extra steps to support the journey from meeting a potential mate through romance, sex, and marriage. In the middle, they convey the import of family and professional connections, distinguishing those from more casual acquaintances. On the other end, they form much of the glue in primary relationships for people who don't base their ties on sexuality. Sex is valuable, but it's not everything.

Hair care. Brushing, braiding, washing, cutting -- all of these involve a lot of careful touching in ways that many people enjoy. Hair braiding is a bonding experience in some cultures. In fact, grooming is a bonding technique for social primates in general. People without close ties to others often treat themselves to regular salon visits as a socially acceptable way to meet the need for touch and interaction.
Shaving. This involves an unusually high level of trust, especially if the person is using a straight-edge razor or something else with an exposed blade rather than just a buzzer. Although it can apply to women, shaving is one of the few forms of physical intimacy that is most closely associated with men due to their facial hair. Initiaton into shaving is a major milestone for becoming a man, not just for boys during puberty but also for transsexuals during transition.
Bathing. This varies by culture; in America most people bathe alone but some other cultures practice communal bathing. A bath is usually more intimate than a shower, although a public bath can be non-intimate and small shower stall can be intimate. It's also different when two people wash each other (an exchange of intimacy and affection) than when one person washes someone else (more of a caretaking or protective gesture).
Feeding. A classic romantic motif involves lovers feeding each other, but it works as a way of providing and caring for someone in any context. Like bathing, it can also clue whether both parties are participating equally or one is taking care of the other (temporarily or regularly). This one has an existential flavor since survival depends on food supply.
Seeing someone without their adaptive equipment on. This includes glasses, dentalware, prosthetic limbs, a wheelchair, etc. Adaptive equipment is part of one's presentation to the everyday world, and taking it off can be as intimate as removing clothing, for many people in many contexts.
Holding Hands. There can be many reasons for this gesture. Physical closeness, offering comfort, or staying together in a crowd, all may have you reaching for someone.
Undressing someone. This can be kind of a one-way experience if the recipient isn't awake, and is often awkward for both people if they are awake. Sometimes it happens because hands are out of commission, but a more common example is someone passing out drunk. Overheating is another good reason. Different circumstances can imply different levels of intimacy.
Sharing secrets. This especially applies to talking about personal issues that aren't widely known. An exchange of secrets is a common ritual between "best friends" among girls and women, but appears elsewhere as well. Some things are only discussed among people with a common reference; veterans may be more comfortable discussing war memories with each other than civilians.
Ordering for someone in a restaurant. Acquiring food, without asking the other person what to get, shows a knowledge of their needs and desires. Providing food is also a gesture of support and sustenance.
Providing moral support at a major event. Helping someone get through a funeral, a trial, or other intense but not crisis situation is usually performed by a very dear friend. This is a situation where lovers or family members may be too close to the matter to be much use.
Crying on someone. When you cry, you tend to let your guard down. Most of the people close to you will see you cry at some point, so that can be a milestone in a relationship. Actually crying on someone, letting them hold you, is even more intimate.
Serving in a primary role for someone during a wedding. This includes the best man or maid of honor at a wedding, or stand-in for absent parents, etc. as well as the traditional family roles. One aspect of intimacy is sharing each other's lives, including ceremonies and transitions.
Comforting someone after a bad breakup. Moments of great vulnerability can bring people closer. While this role sometimes falls to family, breakup repair more often goes to a woman's female friends or a man's male friends.
Listening to someone's heartbeat or breathing. Close body contact, enough to carry soft personal sounds, tends to be comforting as well as connecting, as it touches on positive childhood memories for most people. It is shared between parent and child, sometimes between siblings, and later between lovers. Tight nonsexual partners may also do this.
Putting someone to bed. Interestingly, this activity can happen among people who are just getting to know each other -- most often if someone passes out drunk, but exhaustion can have a similar effect. It's a gesture of caring to put someone to bed rather than leave them where they drop. A milder version involves draping a blanket or coat over a person asleep on a couch or the like.
Sleeping in the same bed. This is an act of shared vulnerability and intimacy. Lovers customarily do this; so do some siblings or friends, especially as children. People may also be driven to share a bed, sleeping bag, etc. for warmth or lack of other accommodations in challenging circumstances.
Watching someone sleep. There is more vulnerability on the part of the sleeper, and more intimacy from the watcher, when only one person is asleep. Parents often watch their children sleep. Lovers sometimes do this with each other, which can be cute or creepy. It's also a guard position, useful for showing that one character seeks to protect another.
Waking someone up from a nightmare. A subtler form of rescue than more physical actions, this is still a gesture of protection and caring. It often leads to comfort afterwards. A typical courtesy between parent and child, or lovers, this can also be an early threshold for characters thrust together unexpectedly if one of them has sturdy daytime walls and a lot of issues. It is common, but often unspoken, among war buddies or veterans, many of whom have nightmares.
Sharing clothes, jewelry, other personal items. This is common between siblings or close female friends. Sometimes roommates do it too. Wearing someone else's shirt or bathrobe is typical in romantic relationships, so can suggest a similar level of intimacy even in the absence of sex.
Cleaning someone else's living space. This shows care and knowledge on the part of the cleaner, and trust on the part of the recipient. You have to know what NOT to throw away or move. It's typical of family members and roommates. Coworkers may clean each other's desk, office space, etc.
Living together. This is a big step, even if it's just for a little while. Housemates are in each other's pockets; it's hard to keep secrets. Family members and lovers often live together, but housemates who are family-of-choice form a category of their own. If you don't want a romantic partner, a permanent housemate is a good choice for someone to share your life with.
Childbirth. Attending the blessed event entails providing a lot of moral support for hours under high stress. It can create a bond with the baby as well as with the mother. When planned, this opportunity is only offered to the closest family members or friends, barring professionals. But it can happen by surprise in very awkward circumstances, a popular motif in fiction.
Saving someone's life. Quick action in a life-threatening situation demonstrates how much one person values another. This can create a strong sense of connection, and sometimes obligation. It often, though not always, entails personal risk for the rescuer. This is fairly typical for military buddies or police partners, etc.
Risking your life for someone. Placing someone else ahead of your own life shows their importance to you unequivocally. This often, though not always, involves trying to save or protect another person. While it can create a sense of gratitude, it frequently causes anger as well -- someone who loves you will generally object to you endangering yourself, even to protect them. Military and police buddies protect each other regularly.
Making emergency decisions for someone. This reveals both how well you know the person, and how much you care about them -- whether you know what they would want, and act on it even if it differs from your personal preference. Unlike some of the other options, in this one the initial action is often outweighed by the aftermath. Both characters have to deal with the results of the decisions, good or bad.
Deathwatch. Dying can be as intimate as giving birth. Staying with someone while they pass is an act of love; so is providing moral support to someone sitting deathwatch for a family member or other person. Many soldiers and police have done this for someone.

A space opera is defined as "a subgenre of science fiction that emphasizes space warfare, melodramatic adventure, interplanetary battles, as well as chivalric romance, and often risk-taking." Star wars is probably the most well known example, but one could also look to the Gundam or Macross series, some parts of Star Trek, Guardians of the Galaxy, Battlestar Galactica, Jupiter Ascending, Legend of Galactic Heroes, or maybe even Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Most breeds these days are docile and perfect for owners of any speed.

Of course, it is our duty as the superior species to take care of these animal creatures, and this is inherent in their genetic makeup. Everyone knows that an animal person, when matched with their correct human master, is loyal for life - a true "soulmate," if you will. Far be it for us to turn this away! Ever since the Great Domestication, these intelligent and loving animals have served us as friends, workmates, guardians, servants, and sexual companions and will for years to come. Despite recent hubbub from so-called "Pet People's Rights Activists," this way of life is wholesome and good. Scientific research shows that the natural desire of the pet person is to be owned and cared for by a human.

So, it's your first pet. What do you need to know?

As previously stated, pet people come in as many breeds as you can possibly think of. By far and away the most popular are the dog and cat types, but exotic birds and lizards have been gaining popularity among trendsetters from L.A. to Tokyo!
All pet types are best suited for certain jobs, and when hunting for one, it is best to search for a type that suits your needs best.
However, a "True Match" - when a pet person bonds with you and only you for the rest of their natural lives - comes naturally, and sometimes takes time before you can find the pet you will be able to give a forever home to.
According to all current research, pet people are completely sentient and like us in many ways. However, it is important to remember that they have many animalistic and feral characteristics. Do not be foolish and think that your pet is a person, despite the facts that many are clothed and may be allowed to read, write, and have "hobbies." Some traditional pet owners may eschew these frivolities, and that is within their right.
Pet people age more quickly than humans, at least physically, and many types have long lifespans. It is not uncommon for pets to be passed through the family. When getting your child their first pet, it's important to keep in mind that just because the pup is tiny now, a grown pet can be jumpy around a small child.
It is important to train a pet. Discipline will be necessary. This does not make you a bad owner. Failure to train early will result in a rebellious pet. Training is especially important if you want your pet to serve as a household servant.
Remember, your pet will be extremely protective of you, especially if you are Truly Bonded. It is best to socialize them early. A socialized pet is a perfect family pet.
These days, unowned and unbonded pet people are allowed to live as strays or "Frees" in certain designated areas. Some even hold "jobs." This is against their best interest, and owners who adopt these strays are to be rewarded. Still, the best place to get pets are from liscenced kennels or breeders.
Some masters find it beneficial to participate in activities with their pets, such as shows and other competitions.
Finally, much has been made about the sexual relationship between pet and master. This is a normal facet of the bond, and humans are sure to find pet people sexually alluring. But beyond that, it is only responsible and prudent for owners to care for their pet's needs. It is a well-known fact that the libidos of pet people are remarkably strong, and when they go into heat, it is usually more convenient for a master to relieve them. There is no risk of pregnancy. All rumors of hybrids are urban legends.
Despite this, masters must remember to not view their pets as romantic partners. Humans should stay with humans.

Needless to say, The Care and Keeping of Your Pet is a bit biased and full of propaganda, but it gives a good idea of the world your character is now AU's into. They are either a pet person or a human master, and what that means for them varies.

So are they a devoted pet or a rebellious animal person looking to buck the system? A generous master or a cruel sexual sadist? Just a normal pet owner? Most likely they're something in between, but when you're raised in this world, it's difficult to see anything different on the horizon.

Rules

Comment with your character and say whether they'd be a master or a pet. Ideally, they could be played as both. Mention what kind of each they'd be and what they'd be like, (ie: "Xx-chan is a bunny girl who is happy to please her master" or "Asterothia is a cat boy who is aloof but loyal to his true master"). For pets, be sure to include features ("wolf ears, tail, teeth).

REMEMBER, pet does not automatically equal submissive and master automatically equal dominant. This is not a BDSM setting though BDSM can be included. How far you want to go with the actual "pet" aspect is up to you, as well. Your pet could just be your slightly-furry roommate or soulmate!

Heat: All pets go into heat, and it's the responsibility of the owner to take care of this problem. After all, unchecked dry humping kills thousands every year.
Breeding: Breeders know the best qualities in each type and mate the cream of the crop together to continue lines. It's a hobby for some, a calling for others.
Pregnancy: So, about that whole "hybrid" thing. It maaaay be more true than you think, even if pet/human pregnancies are the stuff of salacious tabloids.
Territorial: Hey, hey, other dog person! This is your apartment. Stay the fuck out!
Kennel: Kennels are where unadopted pets are kept. They're generally agreed to be depressing places. Why not volunteer at one, keeping the pets healthy and happy with the kind of affection only humans can show?
Rebelling Against the System: Damn the Man! Pet people are people, too! Just be careful not to get talk. You know what happens to bad pets.
Instant Attraction: You ever just look at someone and know they're the one? That they're...your master? But what if you've been trying to fight it? Well, don't try!
Dominant Pet: You might be the pet, but you call the shots, at least in the bedroom.

Don't be so cynical: love at first sight definitely exists. What also exists is love at wrong sight. Both of you feel a spark, hearts a-flutter, magnetism in full force, all the tell-tale signs of an instant pull, so what's the problem?

Well, there are some big problems. One of you could be taken, you could be on opposites sides of a battle or movement, you have a duty that conflicts with romance, this could be the wrong place at the absolute wrong time, the attraction could be forbidden, or any litany of pitfalls you can imagine could exist. Oh why oh why are you having this sudden swooning now? Here? It's no use denying you're in a pickle.

The quandary is...will you avoid this flight of fancy or will affairs of the heart hit you square in the chest?

Long-Distance Relationship Meme

a romantic relationship between two people who live far apart and so are unable to meet on a frequent basis.

What to do if the person you're with...isn't with you? They could be living a town over, across the world, or even across the universe. However, living with you may not be off the table for them; instead, it possibly could be a time to time affair. Most of the time, though, they're off somewhere else and quite busy: working hard to advance their career, playing with their band, leading a revolution, whatever their passion of choice may be. You've come to terms with the distance between you, no matter its origin. And on that note, you're determined to do your best and make this work, despite how much you have to rely on any sort of communication aside from face to face.

Of course, what this all means is that you've got to make up for lost time and make every second you do have when they drop by count. What exactly that entails is up to you. Romance? Fun? Sex? Just being close or hanging out together? In your almost constantly parallel lives, any intersection is good enough.

...plus, it can be entertaining as all heck to play either a. awkward dancing around the subject, if your character is that type, or b. embracing all that warming up. A little of column A, a little of column B may scratch an itch you never knew you had.

1) phone-sex. - it's been a long time since you've seen each other, or maybe you've never even met. describe in detail what you'd like to do to the other and let the words flow.
2) sexting - quick, dirty, and covert. maybe your partner's in the middle of a business meeting. maybe you're doing it over dinner with your parents. all you know is that you want them, so tell them how much.
3) during - sometimes the best way to dirty talk is in the middle of sex itself, covered with sweat, either being pounded into or pounding into someone else. describe how hot they are, describe how wet they are, how big they are, just let them know how much you're enjoying it.
4) teasing - you might deliver, you might not. it all depends on how good they are.

This goes all the way back to tales like Romeo and Juliet. There's just something about a good cry that makes us feel that much more human and even more receptive of beauty.

Past Wounds: One of you was hurt in the past, and it was so bad that it's hurting your relationship. Can you be healed by love, or is this something that can't ever be fixed?
Bad Things: This bad thing isn't in the past. This happened when you were together, and now it's affecting how your lover behaves toward you.
Loss: Perhaps it's a loss only one of you suffered, like a family member. Or it's something the both of you share, like the loss of a child. Sometimes, together you can pull through. Other times, it's just too much to bare.
I Can't Live Without You: Whether it be through injury, curse, terminal illness, one of you is dying. There's only a limited time left. Will you spend your last days with the person you love, or will you end it for their own good, so they don't have to watch you die?
Unfaithful: One of you has been unfaithful, even if you still love your significant other. Can this wrong ever be forgiven?
Gone Away: You're being torn apart by location and distance.
A New Start: The sweet part of bitter. Where one relationship ends, another begins. But is your heart too hurt to accept new love?

It's fairly simple, really, no royalty required. One of you is the "princess:" sweet, gentle, possibly energetic, always full of life and innocence. The other is the "knight:" stoic, or at least serious about protecting that one special person, dedicated, strong, a fighter. And the two of you are in love, even if one...less expressive than the other. Together romantically or not, there's something that connects you, most likely a driving need to protect.

But don't let the normal conventions full you, the "princess" (or "prince," as it may be, because the terms here are gender neutral) is just as important. Someone has look to the emotional well-being and happiness of the "knight," and often, those "knights" need a lot of help.
