On average, one-third of the population has a tattoo, with one out of every four people having more than one tattoo. Once upon a time, this may have seemed aggressive or 'thuggish,' but nowadays, tattoos are a staple in most cultures. Tattoo shops can be found in cities across the globe, and the idea of body modifications becomes normalized by the day.

Time for your characters to hop on the bandwagon.

How to Play

• Leave a top-level comment with which role you'd like for your character, and maybe a few ideas to get the ball rolling.
• Reply to others and decide on a scenario to start.
  
• Make magic happen!
  
  • Feel free to mix it up. Two tattoo artists grabbing coffee? Two best friends getting tattoos for the first time? An AU where tattoos mean something? We're here for all of it!
    
  • And show us the tattoos! We want to see the art!

getting a tattoo...

1. first time - We all have to start somewhere. With any luck, your artist will be cool, kind, and totally reassuring throughout the whole process.


2. tattoo therapy - Things are pretty weird right now, so a tattoo feels like a logical solution. It's more permanent than other coping mechanism, but it also looks a lot cooler.
   


3. cursed!au - This tattoo isn't normal. It's dark, and it's bad, and it grows. Hopefully an artist might have some idea what to do about this, but don't hold you breath.
   


4. killing time - It may surprise you to know that tattoos take a while, especially the big ones. It's not out of the ordinary to make small-talk with your artist. Or... big talk.


5. something specific - You know exactly what you want done; you've got it all planned out. Now, you just need an artist to translate your words into art.


6. bad reaction - The pain, or the anxiety, or the sight of a needle is leaving you in a bad way. Did you pass out? There's always someone who passes out.


7. wholesome!au - Contrasting your artist, maybe you have a much softer career, like a florist, or a barista. Who'd have thought the sweet, local music teacher is secretly decked out in tattoos?


8. under the influence - Most places won't work on someone who's clearly drunk, or high, or otherwise not in their right state of mind, but maybe this place is shadier than the rest.
   


9. or bring your own - Your body, your canvas.

1. the apprentice - Fresh-faced with a sketchbook full of doodles, you've been waiting your whole life for a chance to ink someone up. Let's hope it goes well!


2. the master - This is your shop, with your name on the wall. People come from far and wide for a chance to get one of your world renown tattoos.


3. magic!au - Your tattoos have a little bit more spice to them. Maybe it's something in the ink, or maybe this is an ability coming from you alone. Tattoos you give have power!


4. dealer's choice - They've got no clue what they want, so it's time to come up with an idea together. If they really trust you, they might even leave this piece solely in your hands.


5. basement shop - Not exactly above board, but people in your community know about this hobby of yours. You've got friends who stop by. Maybe, one day, you'll make a lucrative business out of this.
   


6. amazon tattoo gun - Did you know you can buy your very own tattoo gun online? It's true! Seems like the thing that should have more checks and balances in place... oh, well. It's here now, so time to get doodling.


7. burned out - You've been doing tattoos for so long, the love has died away. Maybe you need a new, lush canvas to spark some creativity.


8. pierced - Not exactly a tattoo, but while they're here, why not add that belly button ring they've been dreaming of?
