the 'quest for true love' meme

You know what always seems to happen in fairy tales, movies, lots of other stories, plays and so much more? Someone is searching for true love: be it the princess who lost her glass slipper or the kind prince who was transformed into a bear by a horrible witch or your high school sweetheart got kidnapped a la James Bond. Sometimes it’s romantic and the evildoers are easily defeated by sword or cleverness, sometimes the hero has to climb thorny mountains. But since these are fairy tales, you know they always end up ‘happily ever after’.

Too bad that this is a meme and you only have a 20% chance of that wonderful ending.

prompts

1. THE LOST SHOE ♛ Oh, darn it! You wanted to keep your identity a secret, but you had to drop something that would lead the handsome prince right to you. But is the danger of having your secret of going to the ball exposed with a chance at true love?

2. THE HIGHEST TOWER ♛ It is said that there is a princess in need of rescuing from sleeping forever, and you’re going to be the one to save her. Beware of the dragon!

3. SUBSTITUTE BRIDE ♛ Somehow, you have taken the place of the ugly princess who was to marry your beloved. Good luck in revealing yourself without getting into trouble!

4. FLEEING ♛ For one reason or another, your beloved has fled. Did her evil stepmother drive her off? Did her father lie about her being able to weave gold from straw? Whatever it is, don’t let her get too much of a head start!

5. THE LONG SEARCH ♛ You have been searching high and low for the princess who has been kidnapped by an ogre, an evil wizard, who knows what it was. Is your search finally over? Did your princess manage to save themselves?

6. CURSE BREAKING ♛ Say the magic words, find the magical flower, destroy the evil talisman, or whatever else it takes to free your true love. It’s not that hard.

7. SOLVE THE RIDDLES ♛ Your true love is picky, and they are not going to just marry anyone with riches and titles. If you can pass their riddle(s), then you’ll certainly stick out from everyone else. Or was this just a challenge issued by the king?

8. THE WRONG FIANCÉ ♛ You don’t know who this imposter is, but you are not going to marry them. Yes, ditching them at the altar and finding your real true love sounds like a much better idea.

9. SEPARATED ♛ Be it that your parents didn’t approve, a war started up, financial situation, something separated you and your love. But you’re not going to let that stop you from finding them and never letting go, are you?

10. TRANSFORMATION ♛ Not everything is what it seems: sometimes the princess is the swan you’re about to kill and that ugly frog is the missing heir to the throne. So pucker up and swallow that pride. Toads give you warts.

11. MEMORY SPELL ♛ You don’t know what happened, but your love has lost all memories of you and is going to marry your evil stepsibling.

12. TRUE LOVE’S KISS ♛ There is nothing more powerful than this kind of kiss. It can cure any illness, break any curse, and prove to someone that you are indeed the one they are to spend the rest of their lives with.

13. THREE QUESTS ♛ This is a popular ones for kings and queens who don’t want to marry or marry off their children. Three challenges must be met: riddles, items, the killing of horrible beasts. Do you have what it takes to win someone’s hand?

14. PROVE YOURSELF ♛ More complex than riddles, you must dance for hours, defeat a terrible beast, or feel that hard pea underneath a hundred mattresses before you can even be considered good enough to marry the one you love.

15. WILDCARD ♛ The choice is yours: there are certainly more tropes that were missed.

endings

1. HAPPY ♛ This is the ending that everyone wants. The wedding takes place right after the villain is slain, the rightful heir to the throne has returned, curses are lifted, stolen babies are returned, and nothing can go wrong ever again.

2. HORRIBLE ♛ We’re so sorry. This is not the ending anyone could imagine would happen. The curse is never lifted, you were too late to save the princess, or you answered the question incorrectly. The villains won and are celebrating while you try to pick up the pieces or your broken heart.

3. BITTERSWEET ♛ It’s not the perfect ending, but everything will be okay, right? The princess can get used to her prince having a lot of hair, the prince can find hope in that someone else may someday wake up his true love. The villains haven’t won completely.

4. PLATONIC ♛ Who said that you had to be in love to go and rescue someone? Maybe no one else had the guts to battle dragons and witches; maybe you’re going to save your best friend from pirates pillaging the coastline. Go forth and conquer!

5. WILD CARD ♛ Choose your own ending from the above, or decide your own fate with something different. Where will your story take you?
